To encourage cooperation between German and Japanese researchers with interest in data analysis and classification (in a broad sense) the Second German Japanese Symposium on Classification (2nd GJSC) about

ADVANCES IN DATA ANALYSIS AND RELATED NEW TECHNIQUES & APPLICATIONS

will take place in Berlin from March 7 – 8, 2006, at
After the great success of the 1st symposium of this kind in Tokyo/Shinagawa, September 1 – 3, 2005, under the auspices of GfKl (Gesellschaft für Klassifikation) and JCS (Japanese Classification Society) with support by DFG (Deutsche Forschungsgesellschaft) and Japanese sponsors – which is gratefully acknowledged – this 2nd symposium will be organized just before the 30th Annual GfKl (Click here: GfKl 2006 http://www.wiwiss.fu-berlin.de/lenz/gfkl2006/ ) conference (that will take place at the Free University of Berlin from March 8 – 10, 2006) to allow a maximum of interrelationships between participants of 2nd GJSC (2006) and those of GfKl 2006.

27 talks have been scheduled (see the preliminary program schedule). Although we don't expect changes, a last update will be provided shortly before the start of the symposium (March 3, 2006).
Please, notice that - to keep the overlap with GfKl 2006 as small as possible - there will be no presentations within 2nd GJSC (2006) during the morning of Wednesday, March 8, 2006.

Due to time restrictions imposed by organisational constraints of 2nd GJSC (2006) and GfKl 2006, the schedule is tight and presenters are asked to keep in mind that 25 minutes (including discussion) are allowed per talk.

On Tuesday evening (March 7, 2006), a Japanese-German dinner will take place at HARNACK-house.

A proceedings volume, that contains refereed contributions of 1st JGSC (2005), Tokyo, and 2nd GJSC (2006), Berlin, is planned.

Fee: Euro 70,- (including the Japanese-German dinner without beverages)
